The Stages of Alcoholism Treatment
At Santé Center for Healing, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all treatment plan to help people overcome alcoholism. Just like no one has the same DNA, all addictions are different. We customize the treatment for every person’s specific needs. We get to know our clients during a three-day evaluation so that we know how to meet their needs.
Despite creating custom plans, our addiction treatment program follows a general guideline of stages. However, individuals may begin our program at any point during the recovery process. People with alcoholism don’t have to start with the first stage, which is detox, if they’ve already gone through the process.
Generally, though, after evaluation, Santé Center for Healing begins the detox process. On average, this part of the program lasts for four to 10 days. During this time, we provide 24-hour monitoring of vitals, withdrawal assessments and medical care. Our goal is to make clients as comfortable as possible as their bodies cleanse away the alcohol toxins.
When our clients are stable enough for therapy, we transition into the rehab phase of alcohol treatment. This part of the program lasts an average of two to three months. We don’t put a limit on the duration, though, and base the length of treatment on behavioral changes. This method allows some people to stay in treatment for 100 days or longer.
During rehab, we provide a range of therapies to help people address the root cause of their addiction. They also learn to overcome urges and triggers to drink, which help prevent relapse.
Aftercare is the final stage of treatment. It could be a step down from rehab to intensive outpatient treatment, which lasts about six months. Another option is transitional living, which can last from three months to two years. In these programs, we continue providing education, therapy and support.
