Detailed Information

LeAnne Carr, LPC

My name is LeAnne Carr and I’m a licensed professional Counselor. I received a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Gerontology from William Carey University in 2009 and completed my Master’s in Counseling and Development from Texas Woman’s University in 2015. I have dual diagnosis (addiction and mental health), residential, and outpatient experiences. I also have experience in private practice settings, working with clients presenting with multiple concerns from a wide variety of backgrounds.

I’d like for you to know something that has taken me better than 30 years of my life to work out. We don’t have much control over what happens to us in our formative years and some of those events can have a devastatingly negative impact on who we turn out to be. Whether it’s from bad parenting decisions, rogue relatives, or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, that nasty little voice inside our head works hard to convince us that we are to blame for the bad things that happen to us. And that can create problems that we’ll have to deal with for the rest of our lives.

The good news is that we do have choices when it comes to scripting the rest of our lives. TV and movies make a perfect life look possible. Pop-culture fabricates an image of the ideal life, the perfect woman, how real men act and we buy into it and hold on to it as our benchmark. But it’s a lie. No one lives a perfectly planned life from birth to death; no one.

There will be challenges going forward. How you choose to deal with them will be the difference between a good life and a life of self-torture. But first, we need to address those issues you’ve been wrestling with, we need to address the past. Only once we sort out the mess that is your history, and make sense of it for you, will you be able to fairly assess anything going forward.

My first experience with loss was at the age of 8. This significantly impacted my life shifting my world view and facing mortality at an age that the concept of it is difficult. Throughout my life, since that event, I have personally experienced many different types of losses and each one has come with a different “life lesson”. These experiences have shaped the way I see the world and how I help others facing grief and loss.

I have a deep and personally centered passion for individuals who struggle with addiction. I use an authentic sense of self to create a real and down to earth atmosphere with the individuals. I am passionate about helping others find this same authentic sense of self.
