Detailed Information

Julie Sylva, MA, LPC Associate

supervised by Michelle Burkott, LPC-S

Whether you are simply looking for someone to talk to, learn more about wellness, really struggling, or not sure what you may need, I’m here to be an empathetic listener and non-judgmental support. You are the expert in you, and my role is to help uncover how we can work collaboratively to achieve the outcomes that will best support your goals, so you feel healthy, whole, and hopeful. I value your voice and feedback, and will work to establish a safe, trusting, therapeutic relationship.

Many of my experiences include working with court-involved youth, along with their caregivers and families, and adult & adolescent groups in a PHP/IOP setting. My theoretical approach is integrative of existential, phenomenological, and person-centered, where my focus is on the whole person, and how each individual experiences things and finds meaning. Some modalities I am trained in and utilize include Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person Centered Counseling, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI). I am also a Certified Nurturing Families Facilitator and Clinical Trauma Specialist- Individual (CCTS-I.)

For over a decade, I was previously an educator, which has provided helpful insights into career and life transitions, and the often overlooked importance of career counseling, at most any stage. My specialties include working with youth and their caregivers (family therapy), those who have experienced traumatic events, and general depression and anxiety. I also have a special interest in working with substance use and ADHD as well, as I have lived experience and specialized grad school time researching these areas. This allows me to provide psychoeducation, coping skills, 12-step and SMART recovery options, as well as harm reduction approaches. Educators, musicians of all kinds, adolescents, & those struggling with the loss of a pet may also find me to be a good fit. However, all clients are welcomed and affirmed.

When not working, I might be found taking in some local live music, (preferably on a pet-friendly patio,) enjoying game night, doing yard work, or walking through my neighborhood or on a trail somewhere. If the weather is below 90°, I’ll find any opportunity to be outside.
