Detailed Information

Jan Freeman, LCSW-C

Jan Freeman was introduced to trauma during her first-year field placement as a Graduate Student of Social Work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The agency had been awarded a federally funded grant called the Project Against the Abuse of Appalachian Children (PASAAC) where she was trained by leaders in the field at the time and later hired as a staff therapist. Jan’s 38-year career has continued to focus on the trauma field along with advanced training and specialization in psychodynamic psychotherapy, therapy with adolescents and their families, couples therapy and group therapy. Ms. Freeman has led multiple groups of trauma and sexual abuse survivors in various settings including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization programs. She has been a member of five different teams of therapists developing sexual abuse treatment programs in Tennessee, Maryland and Virginia. Her dedication to the field in which she has distinguished herself led her to be named a Fellow of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation at the 2015 ISSTD Annual Meeting. Ms. Freeman has been a Faculty Member of ISSTD since 2010 and works with children and adolescents with trauma histories as well as dissociative conditions in addition to her work with adults.
