James Hinshaw, Master’s Level Intern

James is currently working on his Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Northern Colorado. He has a passion for expressive arts and mindfulness taking a full body approach to the therapeutic process. James has experience working with individuals of various ages who struggle with depression, anxiety, past or present trauma, addiction, and self-esteem/worth. His experience extends to couples and family challenges as well. In addition, he has worked with victims of sexual violence as well as sexual offenders. His approach is strength based with an emphasizes in mindfulness based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential Approach, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Client Centered Therapy. James believes that the mind, body, and spirit are all connected, and harmony can be found when understanding how all these aspects of the self interact with one another. Utilizing a variety of tools gives him the ability to approach individuals in a way that is unique and reflects who they are. James values providing an environment that is safe, confidential, and non-judgmental. He believes that we are all beautiful messes in our own unique way, and that understanding ourselves and learning how to find balance in the midst of chaos helps us feel the peace and understanding to view ourselves positively to appreciate and refine the beautiful mess within us all.
