Evan Matheney, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
Evan began his counseling career at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) on the Home Based Team which specializes in community-based Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). PCIT, designed for children who demonstrate disruptive behaviors, helps the parents and families of these children regain control of their home and lives by increasing attachment and use of positive (-read powerful and effective-) parenting skills. From there, Evan moved to the Early Childhood Mental Health Team to learn Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), a trauma processing therapy for children. Evan is also trained as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT) and in Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition, he has experience with a variety of therapies including Existential, Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Exposure and Response, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy.
Evan knows that asking for help and receiving counseling is intimidating, and that being a parent can be lonely and frustrating. That’s why he believes that people and their relationships are of the utmost importance. Research shows that the relationship is the most important factor in change, so he deeply values the relationship he develops with his clients and their families.
