If you’re an adult who has complex trauma or complicated grief from childhood and nothing has worked, reach out to try something different.
You’ve managed life up to this point. You’ve been to therapy before, processed your childhood trauma, and thought ‘I’m cured’. But you’re jumpy, anxious, chronically overcompensating, and bending over backwards to keep people in your life who treat you terribly. The irritability, shame, and inadequacy are all back. You’re exhausted and can’t continue like this. Adult survivors of complex childhood trauma cycle through situations like this all the time. But it doesn’t have to continue this way.
When I work with clients who experienced childhood trauma, the first goal is to instill the truth that nothing is ‘broken’ or ‘wrong’ with them. I help to show how trauma responses are a natural body process and adaptive at the time they were created. I then use IFS, which allows us to build a safe, healthy, and supportive relationship with the parts of us that hold that trauma – things they didn’t have in the past. The work is gentle, slow, compassionate, and tender. We welcome the parts that hold trauma and sit with them. When they are ready to share their story, we listen. I also incorporate humanistic, emotion-focused, and narrative lenses.
